One thing is for sure. Aptera Motors has built a car that screams "this is the future" like nothing else out there, and that's captured the imaginations of more than green car enthusiasts. It's captured the imagination of Madison Avenue.
This Aptera ad is complete with goofy optimistic 60's music... I have to say, it looks a little wobbly, doesn't it? It reminds of suburbans fads of the past, like gargantuan brick bar-b-que pits or trampolines that never get used. Having the look of a small aircraft without the wings, one has to wonder how it will do in our mid-west winters. And sorry, but I don't buy the environmentally safe manufacturing methods and components. It's plastic and solar and it takes huge amounts of energy to make and propel, just like every mother mode of motorized transportation. In 30 - 50 years humanity will wonder what the heck we were thinking, the same way we now ponder past excessive coal use or, hey, Al Gore's electric bill. Still, it is an image of a hopeful future that has been lacking lately.

I had a chat with a friend at work this evening. He'll be voting for Obama. I got the distinct impression that Democrats expect politicians to lie. Bill used to say that he tried marijuana but didn't inhale, and his party thought he "handled the question" quite well. For a Democrat, truth isn't the point, it's telling the lie cleverly enough that no one challenges it.
This is the "edited" spoof on Hillary's arrival in Bosnia. Hillary "showing off her marksmanship" cracks me up every time. The video is fine but the rest of the page is unfortunately not "family friendly."

I think we're in for quite a few "whoppers" this cycle.
It's my belief that the reason the "Big Brother" scenario of the many available conspiracy theories has such holding power flows directly from the "nanny state" mentality of the Democratic party. It's absurd to believe that we can tax the bejeepers out of the rich to pay for our entire two trillion dollar government, (complete with "free" benefits for the rest of us) expect them to smile and hand it over without a whimper, and expect nothing in return. If we are going to insist that they (the conspiratorial "they") pay for it, then they are going to own it. It's equally absurd to try to arrange for this massive government to provide huge and expensive benefits for the entire population without tight controls over the use of those "bennies." If there is an erosion of rights, (I believe there is) that is the cause. If you can provide for your own, you are free and independent. If you can't, or won't, you are an obliged dependent. What is delicious about this is that the promoters of the one-world welfare state are battling each other trying to prove that the opponent is more terrifyingly one-world-ish. Doublespeak at it's finest.
It's alternatively frightening and hilarious to watch the "global warming" debate. (Don't you love that word - debate? As if two sides have actually been presented!!!) Frightening for two reasons: if the gloomy side is right - we might actually be in for a pretty wild ride!! -- if the gloomers are wrong, we are naked in our own eyes at how pitifully vulnerable we are to repetitious propaganda ... and hilarious because they are so cute in their childish fears ... they are absolutely hysterical!! "Who's On First " bows to their comedic brilliance!! Meet another target of leftist repudiation, Israeli astrophysicist Nir Shariv. First he describes the steps to becoming a gloomer:

I'm finding it difficult to commit to anything I've heard about the immigration issue. My thoughts are that our system of law is mocked when our legislators pass or continue with laws that don't work, and our INS systems can't handle what's going on at our southern border. I welcome folks that want to immigrate legally. There are masses of folks that want in. The U.S. economy has masses of jobs for them. I don't see why it's apparently so difficult to simply revise the quotas upward substantially. If the problem is that the Hispanic people are coming here illegally, then arrange it so they can come legally. Then, if they don't want to immigrate according to our pretty generous rules, they don't get in. What we heard from Mr Bush regarding health care had some merit, but we should have seen action on this issue four years ago. I'm convinced that the Republicans could have made some good progress against creeping socialism with programs such as those laid out by the President. Those are my opinions on those items, but I was only really interested in what he would say about Iraq. I liked it. The democrats sat politely, and have since said they are having none of it. A few republicans are stepping with them. Most republicans stood and applauded.
We know with certainty that the horrors of that September morning were just a glimpse of what the terrorists intend for us -- unless we stop them.
We know now that U.S. and Georgian authorities have arrested a man "holding" (literally) weapons-grade uranium for sale to buyers that he thought were Islamists in the former Soviet state of Georgia. He told the buyers that he had access to much more.
With the distance of time, we find ourselves debating the causes of conflict and the course we have followed. Such debates are essential when a great democracy faces great questions. Yet one question has surely been settled: that to win the war on terror we must take the fight to the enemy. (Applause.)
Democrats believe that the war should be being fought in Afghanistan, and focusing on getting Bin Laden. So they could applaud this line, but with their interpretation. Even though Bin Laden and other terror leaders have said that they must win Iraq, and that the battle against America IS Iraq.
Every success against the terrorists is a reminder of the shoreless ambitions of this enemy. The evil that inspired and rejoiced in 9/11 is still at work in the world. And so long as that's the case, America is still a nation at war.

I think he should say, "every terrorist hates most..." and stop using the word "fear" regarding the thugs. A fearful terrorist just doesn't sound too threatening to me!

I respect you and the arguments you've made. We went into this largely united, in our assumptions and in our convictions. And whatever you voted for, you did not vote for failure.
In the attempt to feel like they are on the forward edge of conservative thought, I think many bright folks are running too quickly from shock and dismay to planning for the next election cycle. More discussion, research is needed. Many, many pounds of beans still separate us from the time decisions need to be made regarding candidates! Let's aggressively remind folks who we are after we've figured out what went wrong...'cause it's not just about losing our conservative voice!
